How to Unlock your Vehicle

Modern electronic key fobs provide more functionality and are more convenient as compared to manual keys. However, they do require batteries that eventually degrade over time and require replacement. If your Volvo key fob has begun to malfunction intermittently, it's an indication that the battery is depleted and will need replacement in the near future.

Then, locate the battery's hatch, and turn it open using the flathead, a coin, or any other similar tool. Next, carefully pry the battery from its socket by lifting it on the side closest to the key-ring loop. Be sure to wear rubber gloves to protect the clips or electronic contact surfaces.

Once the battery has been removed, insert the new one into its socket. Make sure that the positive side of the battery is facing upwards and that all clips are in place. Slide the cover downwards towards the key-ring section until it becomes loose, and is able to slide off. Remove the cover to reveal the hidden key blade. Note: Certain older Volvo models have an entirely different type of battery that is the CR2025. CR2025 batteries have an average thickness of 7 tenths millimeters less than a CR2032 and you'll have to be extra careful when replacing your battery.
